Our History

Founded in 1965 on the West Island of Montreal as a local community musical theatre company, The Lyric Theatre operated very successfully performing in several local venues and was managed and supported by hundreds of dedicated volunteers. In 1986, Lyric moved its main stage productions to Centaur Theatre, the premiere English language theatre facility in Old Montreal. In doing so, the company created a new home base for their annual book shows. This move broadened its audience, increased its support base and positively impacted the company’s financial and artistic results. In 1990 a second performance division was established:

The Lyric Theatre Singers. Under the direction of founder, Bob Bachelor, this award-winning vocal ensemble has since become known to Montreal audiences as the foremost interpreters of Broadway, jazz, and pop choral music. Their unique and dynamic concert style – which has won them many accolades from judges and fans alike – combines excellent choral work with creative staging that captures the drama of the music.
